Hi rockinggirl,

Thank you for your enquiry. I would suggest you check the wording of your tenancy agreement (see Section 6 if your tenancy agreement was pre Jan 2009 or Section 7 if later) but we can confirm that you do have the right to take in lodgers, so long as you do not have more than the number of people eligible to live in the property. You must get our permission to take in lodgers and therefore you will need to contact your local office prior to doing so.

Please be reassured we will not withhold permission unreasonably and will ask for details of any lodger including name, age and gender and which part of the property they will be living in before taking in any lodger.

Please also note that if appropriate, you must let Housing Benefit or any other relevant agency know about any changes to the people living in your home.

I hope this helps. If you need any further information I would urge you to contact your local office for advice.

Best Wishes,
Sarah
